How might the concept of produsage be applied in your life (personal and/or professional) as it stands today? Are you already a produser? If yes, what do you do? If no, why not?
Currently, I'm an instructional designer for the Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles. Specifically, I design and develop online training for the agency (as does several of the other designers). So, we use various online resources for royalty free pictures, graphic design and software tutorials - both video and blog.
Internally, we could share these resources, the courses, graphics, animations, or layouts we create from them, which would enable us to learn from each other while also improving upon one another's work. I guess theoretically we could do this now, we just don't have a place to put these items, aside from the shared server, which can be cumbersome to sort through. It would be ideal to have a place just for reusable items.
Externally, because our training is public record, we could post these same items publicly to also gain an outside perspective. Not only could this help HSMV's quality of training, but we may also be able to help someone else, which would likely be beneficial to the learning and development community as a whole.
Personally, I wouldn't consider myself a produser per se. At least, not at this time. I don't currently contribute to any communities were my work can be recycled or improved by someone else. Between two Master's degrees and three jobs I haven't had much time to participate in many extra curricular activities. But, now that I'll be graduating in a few weeks, and trading in my various part-time jobs for one full-time job, I hope to have more time to contribute to such communities - I'd like to be able to share some of my strengths with others while also learning from them.
